Vadodara: Players from the Baroda District Roller Skating Association received 16 prestigious state-level sports awards at the ‘Shaktidoot 2.0’ award ceremony organised by the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department of the Government of Gujarat in Gandhinagar.At this prestigious ceremony, the players of the Baroda District Roller Skating Association brought pride to Vadodara city and their coaches by receiving various awards. The talented skaters from Vadodara, who delivered outstanding performances at the state and national levels, were honoured with the Sardar Patel Award and the Jaydeepsinhji Award.A total of 15 players, who train at the skating rinks in Gotri, Waghodia, Baroda High School and ONGC, received 16 of the highest state-level sports honours for their achievements in roller skating.

With the objective of developing logical thinking, concentration, decision-making skills and sportsmanship among students, the 70th Annual District-Level Chess Championship of SGFI was organised at Sadhu Vaswani Vidyamandir.A large number of students from various schools across Vadodara city participated in the competition in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories for both boys and girls. The players made the competition exciting by showcasing their chess skills, intelligence, patience and strategic thinking.Chess, being an intellectual sport, plays an important role in developing concentration, logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, quick decision-making skills and self-confidence among students. The competition provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their talent. The winning players were also selected to participate in the next level of the competition.

The Vadodara team will represent Gujarat in the National Round of the 66th Subroto Cup, an international football tournament organised by the Indian Air Force for the promotion of football for the past six decades.In the Under-15 State Level Round final held at Sunshine Ground in Rajkot, the Vadodara team defeated the Surat team 3–2. Vadodara's Harkit Singh scored two goals, while midfielder Devansh scored one.Vadodara's defence remained strong throughout the final. Vadodara scored in the 5th minute of the first half, while Surat responded with a goal in the 22nd minute. In the second half, Vadodara scored two more goals to win the final.Forward player Harkit Singh scored a total of five goals in the tournament. The Best Player of the Tournament award was won by Vadodara's Advait Ahir, while Aarush Bhonsle received the Promising Player award. The team is coached by Nimesh Rathod.The Vadodara team will now compete in the National Round starting from 18 August. The District Sports Officer's Office had provided the Manjalpur ground for the team's practice and also extended technical support for the tournament.According to coach Nimesh Rathod, Team Baroda scored 14 goals in five matches while conceding only three. In the tournament matches, Vadodara scored one goal against Bhavnagar, three each against Chhota Udepur, Surat and Kutch, and four against Anand. The teams from Bhavnagar and Anand were unable to score against Vadodara.Last year, the Vadodara team was defeated in the State Level final itself. The team is now preparing to perform strongly in the National Round and aims to win the Subroto Cup, a title that Vadodara has not yet won.
