Social Work Background of Dr. Gayatri Prakash

Dr. Gayatri Prakash, Trustee of Delhi Public School Vadodara, has a long-standing commitment to social development and community empowerment. Her social-service journey is closely associated with Sakaar Outreach, a registered not-for-profit organisation founded in 2001 with the vision of reaching out to vulnerable and underserved communities and helping them become self-reliant.

Dr. Prakash has served as the Founder and General Secretary of Sakaar Outreach and has been actively involved in its work for more than two decades. The organisation focuses on education, women’s empowerment, healthcare, environment and community development, particularly among economically and socially disadvantaged communities.

A significant dimension of her social work has been education as an instrument of empowerment. Sakaar Outreach has undertaken adult and non-formal education, remedial classes, reading programmes, storytelling, value-based education and vocational training. Its empowerment initiatives have included spoken-English training, dress-making, beauty-culture courses, computer education, self-help groups and legal advocacy.

Her work has also particularly addressed the needs of women and children from low-income communities. Public profiles note her involvement in providing legal assistance to women from economically weaker neighbourhoods, alongside initiatives aimed at education, employability and greater social independence.

Sakaar Outreach has also worked at the grassroots level on healthcare and community infrastructure, including health camps, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, mobile medical facilities, sanitation, safe drinking water, rainwater harvesting, playground development and tree plantation. The organisation has worked with communities in Delhi as well as Gujarat.

The organisation's stated philosophy—“To reach out and touch lives”—reflects Dr. Prakash's broader understanding of social responsibility: not merely providing charity, but creating conditions in which disadvantaged individuals can acquire education, skills, dignity, employability and the capacity for self-reliance. Sakaar describes this approach as helping the less privileged realise their potential and equipping them with skills to stand on their own feet.

Her commitment to social equity also informs her educational philosophy. In her professional role as an education leader and Trustee, she has consistently advocated education that develops the whole person, rather than focusing exclusively on academic achievement. Her published work connects education with life skills, social responsibility, empathy, cooperation, respect for diversity and care for the larger community.

In brief

Dr. Gayatri Prakash's social-work contribution may therefore be viewed through five interconnected areas:

  • Education for the underprivileged – non-formal education, remedial learning and educational support for disadvantaged children and adults.
  • Women empowerment – vocational skills, legal advocacy, self-help initiatives and pathways towards economic independence.
  • Community development – grassroots interventions designed to improve living conditions and community participation.
  • Healthcare and awareness – health camps, HIV/AIDS awareness, nutrition and access to basic healthcare.
  • Sustainable development – sanitation, safe drinking water, rainwater harvesting, environmental awareness and community infrastructure.

Her association with Sakaar Outreach gives an important social dimension to her identity as an educationist and school Trustee: the belief that education should ultimately translate into dignity, opportunity, inclusion and service to society.

Message from the Trustee

Dear Parents,

Education defines the being of any existence. Education that imparts quality to thought and action is the real form of education. Mere degrees do not qualify in the making of a human being.

Education defines the being of any existence. Education that imparts quality to thought and action is the real form of education. Mere degrees do not qualify in the making of a human being.

The DPS objective is to bring best out in every child. Here we strive to foster an effort where the child learns by discovery. The school perpetually aims at refining the latent talents in the children while they surge towards better and higher accomplishments. It provides each child the opportunity to explore himself/herself so that he/she can judge his/her ability, temperament and aptitude. It also introduces acquisition of standardized knowledge that leads to education of high quality.

At DPS Vadodara, the child is trained to believe in himself/herself and grant to the society his/her unique contribution.

Dr. Gayatri Prakash
